Are current server system designs still good enough for a bright digital future?

Are current server system designs still good enough for a bright digital future?

Climate disaster, digital transformation, industry 4.0, AI, data science and there’s more to add. There’s a lot to take into consideration when thinking of solid and future proof server systems. Does it make sense to adopt all the cool digital trends but continue to rely on traditional server systems that got designed when AI was still science fiction?

How Will We Store Exabytes of Machine-Created Data?

How Will We Store Exabytes of Machine-Created Data?

With the quantity of data being stored exploding and, in the coming years, a lot of it created by machines, where will we put it all? Luckily, Toshiba has experience storing petabytes of random, unstructured data generated by scientific research organisations. Such implementations provide a glimpse of what the rest of the industry will need in terms of configuration, operation, and scaling to handle growing demand for machine-generated data storage. Discover why HDD will remain a core component of storage strategies for years to come.

Fixing the Internet: A Proposal, with Sir Tim Berners-Lee

Fixing the Internet: A Proposal, with Sir Tim Berners-Lee

“The future is still so much bigger than the past.” So says Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web. Tim is still active in shaping its evolution, both as founder and Director of the W3C and co-founder and CTO of Inrupt, which puts individuals in control of their data, gives organizations new opportunities to create value for customers, and allows developers to thrive in an open marketplace of innovation.
Sir Tim Berners-Lee
Inventor of World Wide Web

Sir Tim Berners-Lee

Inventor of World Wide Web

Sir Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web in 1989 while working as a software engineer at CERN, the large particle physics laboratory near Geneva, Switzerland. Sir Tim understood the unrealized potential of millions of computers connected together through the Internet and envisioned the Web as a global information sharing space. Sir Tim proposed what was to become the World Wide Web with a proposal specifying a set of technologies that would make the Internet truly accessible and useful to the world.. Despite initial setbacks and with perseverance, by October of 1990, he had specified the three fundamental technologies that remain the foundation of today’s Web : HTML, URL, and HTTP. He also wrote the first Web page editor/browser (“WorldWideWeb”) and the first Web server (“?httpd“). By the end of 1990, the first Web page was available. By 1991, people outside of CERN joined the new Web community, and in April 1993, from much encouragement from Sir Tim and his colleagues, CERN announced that the World Wide Web technology would be available for anyone to use on a royalty-free basis. Since that time, the Web has changed the world, arguably becoming the most powerful communication medium the world has ever known. Whereas only just over one half of the people on the planet are currently using the Web the Web has fundamentally altered the way we teach and learn, buy and sell, inform and are informed, agree and disagree, share and collaborate, meet and love, and tackle problems ranging from putting food on our tables to curing diseases. In 2009, Sir Tim recognized that the Web’s potential to empower people to bring about positive change remained unrealized by billions around the world. Announcing the formation of the World Wide Web Foundation, he once again confirmed his commitment to ensuring an open, free Web accessible and to all where people can share knowledge, access services, conduct commerce, participate in good governance and communicate in creative ways. In 2012 Sir Tim co-founded the Open Data Institute with Sir Nigel Shadbolt, which seeks to show the value of open data, and to advocate for the innovative use of open data to affect positive change across the globe. A graduate of Oxford University, Sir Tim is a professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology at the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL) andin the Computer Science Department at Oxford University.

Winning the Hybrid Cloud Market

Winning the Hybrid Cloud Market

The explosion of cloud technology brings new opportunities for enterprises to optimize their virtual IT enterprise across the ecosystem of clouds necessary to run their business. However, with these advancements comes increased complexity, security concerns, and a disaggregation of IT assets across providers. The key to success and overcoming the inherent challenges with cloud sprawl is a defined enterprise cloud strategy which balances all the factors for enterprise workloads mapped against the cloud ecosystem. In this interview, Dell and NTT will discuss how they have worked together to build solutions for enterprises and significantly reduce the complexity of the hybrid and multi-cloud ecosystem.

NOW is the time to BUILD.

NOW is the time to BUILD.

Everybody can be a developer. Anybody can become a developer. The transformation from physical to digital business is not new, and last year only acted as a catalyzer. Most importantly, these changes are here to stay. The creation of web apps and online business become more important than ever before. At the same time, the developers become a scarce resource. This is why they need better tools than ever. Actually, entire new toolkits. They must be as efficient as possible, raising to the customer’s expectations. It is a real challenge … and also a great opportunity for our industry.

Connecting to the CentralNic Reseller Division via API

Offering domains as part of your services can act as a gateway to core offerings, though we all know, domain management can be a resource consuming undertaking. Domain reselling leaders, HEXONET and RRPproxy, discovered early on that by developing and regularly launching WHMCS modules, they can empower partners worldwide to resell domain names and related products via simple API connection. Based on the popularity of the modules, including WHMCS Marketplace 5-star HEXONET modules Resell Domain Backorders and High-performance Domain Availability Checks, the CentralNic reseller brands are coming together to share key factors you should consider when looking to: easily resell domain names, consolidate an existing portfolio, and make additional revenue with ease. Go from set up to selling hundreds of domains in minutes, making life easier and more profitable - for you. Attend this session if you want to run a smooth domain reselling service while having someone else do the heavy lifting. You stay focused on your business while our dedicated team help you succeed with domains and related services. During the session we'll address the challenges and questions you are likely facing when it comes to reselling domain names, present solutions, and share some of our key learnings from our years of developing API/WHMCS/GitHub connected modules - including sharing some insights to what's in our WHMCS pipeline. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session in which we'll have one of our top software development team members on hand to take your questions, technical-talk welcome!

How We Lead, Now That Platforms Are More Important Than Countries

The actions of large social media platforms after the US election has signaled a new era in the role of these platforms, whether governments, the platforms themselves, or their billions of users like it or not. In the Cloud, and particularly the DNS industry, we have the opportunity to lead the world in showing how platforms should responsibly deal with all manner of content. How do we best leverage our advantages of global tech and regulatory communities, as well as a well-established multi-stakeholder process with over twenty years of history—while also taking advantage of emerging ways of naming, navigating, and valuation online? Join us for a rich panel discussion on the issues in general and specifics on how we can lead the world in these matters.

The Trouble with Walled Gardens

The Trouble with Walled Gardens

Are you just a bird in a gilded cage? Building a recognized and trusted brand is more important than ever, and though your social media credentials can be a strategic and integral part of your brand and marketing, problems emerge if your brand lives only on third-party social media platforms that you don’t actually control. Find out from internet marketing experts what you’re missing by training your customers to seek your brand on social media sites instead of using a custom domain name. Learn how to leverage both domains and social media to amplify your brand’s messaging and take control of your own community—and destiny. More importantly, find out how to convey these risks and rewards to hosting and Cloud customers, and use domains to drive more business. This is an essential session for marketers, brand managers, and anyone who wants to understand how to teach their clients to control their own Cloud environment and not to get trapped by third-party social media platforms.

What You Need To Know About Section 230

What You Need To Know About Section 230

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, enacted in 1996, is the federal law that gives internet companies protection from liability for user-generated content disseminated on their platforms. This is one of the foundational laws upon which the internet was built. Lawmakers want to hold Facebook and Twitter accountable to new standards by enacting 230 reform, but the scope and number of Section 230 reform proposals pose significant liability risks for Cloud companies. Find out what you need to know as this fight plays out, and how i2Coalition is making sure your voice gets heard.

Who can help protect your private data?

Who can help protect your private data?

Many enterprises today are hesitant to move their most sensitive data to shared hosting because of trust concerns with data confidentiality in a multi-tenant environment, potential exposure to microarchitectural vulnerabilities and bad-actor access. Cloud service providers (CSPs) are similarly concerned with the liabilities of potential access to customer data. The solution to both the trust and liability problem is for the CSPs to not have access to customer data, not even administrators or hypervisors. Encrypting both the storage and memory of a virtual machine is the answer, so long as the customer controls the process – not the CSP. This talk will explain AMD’s Hardware Accelerated Memory Encryption, the stronger threat model that it supports, and provide confidential compute implementation examples.

Dell Technologies Protected Cloud Strategy

Dell Technologies Protected Cloud Strategy

The future of IT is hybrid – a world that balances the right public cloud services with the right on-premises infrastructure to provide the performance, scale, functionality and control required of modern applications and development paradigms. As customers consider this hybrid model, it is important to take a data-first approach. Protecting against ransomware and other cyberattacks is quickly rising in importance for both IT and business executives. As IT deployments become more complex, with on-prem deployments combined with applications running in multiple public clouds, it is hard to build a world class centralized solution to protect critical data from the modern threat of sophisticated cyberattacks… until today. At Dell Technologies, we are introducing new multi-cloud storage and data protection capabilities so stay tuned!

The past, present and future

The past, present and future

When you’ve spent more than 50 years in the industry there’s a lot to talk about. Industry veterans Andreas Gauger and Sebastian Nölting started their careers around the same time and kept in touch over the years. It’s now the perfect time to have a chat about how it all began, what happened on the way, and what lies ahead of the webhosting and CSP business. You’ll also see what plans and ideas these two silver surfers have in the pipe for the next years (it’s not yet retirement!) and what they see for the future. Having a good laugh is highly recommended but not a must.

Integrating AWS, Azure and GCP Protection

Integrating AWS, Azure and GCP Protection

End users are consuming lots of resources from the public cloud, especially the three big hyperscalers. And whether you have chosen AWS, Azure or Google (or multiple), the rules are always the same: you receive an impressive arsenal of solutions that can help you build any service you have in mind, but you need to do it yourself and you need to take care of the data you put on those clouds. You can engage a consultant to help you build your cloud-base services, but who do you engage for the protection of your data? You just rely on the availability? Then you are taking a huge risk, because the hyperscalers are responsible for the platform, not the data it contains. Whether you are an end user or a service provider managing data for others, public cloud protection is a hot topic that has to be properly addressed. This is where Veeam can help! In this session we will detail what you can achieve with their cloud-native solutions for AWS, Azure and GCP. This includes a special focus on service providers that may want to manage all the different public cloud in a multi-tenant way, and from a central location. And even be able to move data from one public cloud to another, or from on-prem to cloud.
