Radia Perlman

Radia Perlman is a Fellow at Dell Technologies. She stumbled into the industry at the dawn of computer networks.  The routing algorithm she designed (IS-IS) remains widely deployed.  She also designed the spanning tree algorithm which is the foundation of modern day Ethernet.  She wrote the textbook “Interconnections: Bridges, , Routers, and Internetworking Protocols” and cowrote the textbook “Network Security” (which includes descriptions of quantum computing and the new quantum-safe public key algorithms). She holds over 200 issued patents. She has received numerous  awards including induction into the Inventor Hall of Fame, induction into the Internet Hall of Fame, lifetime achievement awards from ACM’s SIGCOMM and Usenix, election to National Academy of Engineering, and an honorary doctorate from KTH.  She has a PhD from MIT.
